Efforts to ensure the economic vitality of the District are led by the South Hennepin Business Association, a nonprofit corporation of member businesses formed in 1993 whose mission is to promote and support area business and property owners.

The South Hennepin Business Association also guides the District’s 19-block Special Service District, which provides year-round enhanced services in the public realm. Paid for entirely by area commercial properties via an additional annual assessment, these services are focused on improving the pedestrian experience in the District:

  • Removing sidewalk litter and trash
  • Removing sidewalk snow and ice
  • Maintaining the District’s landscaping and grass boulevards
  • Removing graffiti from public fixtures
  • Installing seasonal decorations and holiday lighting
  • Maintaining the District’s identity signage
  • Emptying the District’s trash receptacles
  • Maintaining streetscape fixtures such as benches and planters

The South Hennepin Business Association is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, which convenes regularly to review and address the opportunities and issues facing the organization and the local business community.
